Ministries convention empowers participants to serve

Buford Griffith, Jr., Southwestern Union vice president for ministries

With more than 1,500 in attendance, the Southwestern Union Ministries Convention was a tremendous success. It truly was “A Buffet of Ministries Training” as attendees selected seminars and presentations that enriched the ministries programs and needs at their churches. All weekend long there was abundant evidence of God’s presence in the meeting rooms, in the hallways, and on the faces of attendees as they realized more of their dream to serve God effectively.

Our speakers for the general sessions—Doug Batchelor, Alexandro Bullon, Steve Case, Roscoe Howard, and Jose Rojas—were guided by the Holy Spirit in their presentations. Their messages were woven together by God’s masterful Hand, giving focus for God’s people to join Him in ministry that points people to the joy of accepting Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

We want to give special thanks to all of our many seminar presenters. Each one came well prepared to train our people to be active laborers in the salvation of men, women, and children. The convention choir, under the direction of David Anavitarte, and the A’MEN quartet of the Arlington church inspired and thrilled us with their heavenly music.

Although most of their work took place behind the scenes, space will not allow me to mention each person of our Southwestern Union family who worked tirelessly to make the convention a success. My heartfelt thanks goes out to each one. It is such a joy and privilege to be a part of such a wonderful group of Christian workers.

Our next union-wide ministries event is being planned for September 6-10, 2011, once again at the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas. This event will be spearheaded by the North American Division Adult Ministries department as a “Festival of the Laity.” Watch for more information as that date comes closer.

Let us all be faithful in service to our Lord and pray that soon and very soon, Christ will come. May 2011 find us in the kingdom of God.
